No. 8 Tigers Rout North Texas, 4-1

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – No. 8 Memphis women's soccer scored four unanswered goals after falling behind, eventually coasting to a 4-1 victory over North Texas on Thursday night.
The Tigers (11-0-2, 5-0-1 American) conceded the first goal for the second time this season, falling behind in the 14th minute before scoring twice in quick succession to take a two-goal lead into the break. They took control of a chaotic game in the second half and were rewarded with two more goals for their 25th consecutive regular season conference game without a loss.
"I honestly never panicked, because I've seen how the girls are in practice," said head coach Brooks Monaghan. "When we went up, it got a little erratic so we told them to settle the game, and they did a good job of responding to that, too."
Memphis started the game with a purpose after a slow start last week at Tulsa, taking seven early shots and forcing goalkeeper Alina Arneth into two saves. It would be the visitors that struck first, however, as Claire Niedermeier got on the end of a loose ball that the Tigers couldn't take control of to take a 14th-minute lead.
After pressing for the equalizer for nearly 20 minutes, Memphis finally broke through as Elise Perron turned home a pass from Mihiro Furuya, who did well to beat her defender and create the opportunity. One minute later, Perron was brought down in the penalty area, and after a successful coach's challenge from Monaghan, Ashley Henderson sent the keeper the wrong way for her fifth goal of the year.
The last 10 minutes of the first half were chaotic, and North Texas nearly found an equalizer but were denied by the crossbar. Memphis found more control of the game after the break, allowing just one shot on frame as they pushed for another goal.
Their moment would come after another moment of invention from Henderson and Ai Kitagawa. Henderson lifted a perfect curled cross from the left wing which found the head of a sprinting Kitagawa to make it 3-1 in the 70th minute.
The fifth and final goal of the game would come three minutes later, as Flavie Dube poked home a loose ball after great set piece delivery from Kitagawa.
The Tigers again outshot their opponent, 20-8, and earned nine corner kicks. They will be back at home this Sunday, October 12, to take on Florida Atlantic at 6:00 p.m. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
