Green Wave Sweeps Tigers, Memphis Drops Sunday Game 10-2

Memphis, Tn. - The University of Memphis Tiger baseball team (15-31, 8-12) suffered it's eighth-straight defeat on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Green Wave of Tulane (33-16-1, 16-4-1) 10-2. Tulane swept Memphis in the three-game C-USA series and also handed the Tigers their sixth-straight conference loss.
Memphis only registered five team hits, compared with 11 for Tulane. The Tigers also stranded six base runners, in the loss.
Tulane was on the board first, taking a 2-0 lead into the third off two quick hits.
Memphis got a chance at a comeback, when senior designated hitter Nate Sams hit a sacrifice-fly to right, scoring junior first baseman Jonathan Leicester from third and the Tigers trailed, 2-1 after three. The Green Wave then got two more runs when James Jurries smashed a two-run blast to straight-away center and Tulane had taken a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth. The Green Wave then distanced themselves from the Tigers in the eighth, when Jake Goutreau slammed a three-run shot over the wall which gave Tulane a 7-1 lead, after seven-and-a-half.
Tulane finished with three more runs and Memphis added another in the bottom of the ninth but it wasn't enough, as the Tigers fell again.
Leicester was a bright spot in the defeat, going 2-for-4 with two singles and two runs scored.
Junior pitcher Jason Wiedmeyer (4-5) got the loss, after giving up six earned runs on seven hits while facing 32 batters. Senior closer Sean Carlson, came on the eighth and allowed two earned runs on four hits and struck out two.
Dan O'Gara (5-3) snagged his fifth win on the year for Tulane, and only gave up four hits while facing 29 batters.
Memphis will host the Bulls of South Florida in a Conference USA weekend series from May 5th-May 7th. Game times are: Friday at 7, Saturday at 2 and Sunday at 1 p.m. All games will be played at Nat Buring Stadium.
