Andrew Mueller was named as an assistant coach in March of 2025.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Andrew Mueller to the University of Memphis volleyball staff as my assistant. His passion, knowledge and dedication to the game will be a tremendous asset to our program. We’re excited for what’s ahead,” said head coach Cheri Lindsay.
MUELLER’S RESUME
Mueller comes to Memphis after most recently spending three seasons as the head coach of the Iona Gaels volleyball program.
“I am beyond excited to be joining the volleyball program at the University of Memphis,” said Mueller. “Coach Lindsay and the staff were so welcoming from the moment I stepped foot on campus. There is an energy surrounding Memphis athletics right now and it’s an exciting time to be joining the volleyball program. I’m looking forward to getting to work with the current and new student-athletes, support staff and administration while bringing a championship to the 901.”
In 2024, Mueller led the Gaels to an appearance in the second round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship after upsetting fifth-seeded Sacred Heart in the first round. At the conclusion of the season, outside hitter Mija Jegers was named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team. During his first two seasons, he helped the Gaels reach two MAAC Tournament appearances, included a third-seeded finish in 2022, the program’s highest seed since 2018. Under his tutelage, Hope Matschner became a two-time MAAC Libero of the Year and First Team All-MAAC selection. Matschner lead the NCAA in digs in 2023 and in digs per set in 2022. Mueller’s Gaels earned seven total all-conference honors during his three seasons at the helm.
Prior to becoming the head coach at Iona, Mueller served as an assistant coach at Long Island University (LIU). With the Sharks, Mueller helped guide the program to its highest win percentage in conference play in the program’s history at the time.
Mueller also had stints coaching stints at as an assistant women’s volleyball coach at Columbia University and Fordham University, along with being the head coach of Brooklyn College women’s volleyball and St. Francis College men’s volleyball.
Mueller’s coaching career began at Columbia College. He served as an assistant coach for three seasons where he helped the program to a 119-3 record. While with the Cougars, Mueller assisted in coaching multiple National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) All-Americans, along with an NAIA National Championship appearance in 2010, followed by an NAIA Final Four appearance in 2011.
Mueller was a standout athlete at Francis Howell Central, being named a Missouri State High School Activities Association First Team All-Conference selection in 2005.
He additionally played two seasons of club volleyball for the Missouri Thunder from 2004-2005 and played collegiately at Lindenwood University in 2006.
Mueller graduated from Columbia College with a Bachelor of Arts in history.
