Roya St. Clair

Former University of Michigan and Akron Racers catcher Roya St. Clair enters her second season as an assistant coach on the Memphis after serving the 2012 season as a volunteer coach with the Tigers.
"Roya's addition to our staff was a step in the right direction for Memphis softball," said head coach Natalie Poole. "She brings good knowledge of the game, a competitiveness that comes from playing at the highest level, and an understanding of what it takes to be the best. Roya has great contacts around the nation, which will aid in recruiting for our program."
A 2010 Michigan graduate, St. Clair was a member of three Big Ten Conference championship teams. A two-time All-Big Ten selection, she played the 2011 season professionally with the Akron Racers, a member of the National Pro Fastpitch League (NPF). St. Clair was also part of the NPF Back-to-School Tour in the fall of 2011 that went around the country playing exhibitions against college programs, including Memphis.
"I can tell these kids that I've been there," St. Clair said. "I've been to where you want to go. I've played in a World Series. I've played professionally. I definitely think it will help me going forward in coaching."
The Livonia, Mich., native played in 32 games with the Racers. She hit .229 with a home run, 10 RBI and seven runs scored after signing as an undrafted free agent.
At Michigan, St. Clair was a 2009 All-Big Ten Conference first team selection, helping lead the Wolverines to the NCAA College World Series. During her junior season, she hit a career-best .301 with six home runs, 33 RBI and 15 runs scored.
As a senior in 2010, St. Clair was named to the All-Big Ten third team. She appeared in all 57 games and started 56 at catcher. She had career highs in runs scored (19), home runs (8) and RBI (46) and caught two perfect games and three no-hitters.
St. Clair hit .251 with 18 home runs, 30 doubles, 111 RBI and 43 runs scored over her four-year career at Michigan.
In the classroom, St. Clair was a 2008 and 2009 Academic All-Big Ten Conference selection and earned the 2007 and 2009 U-M Academic Athletic Achievement Award.
St. Clair graduated from Michigan in 2010 with a degree in sport management.
