University of Memphis head rifle coach Morgan Phillips added Jessica Boyce to the team’s coaching staff as a graduate assistant on Aug. 30, 2022.
Boyce came to the Tigers after completing her collegiate playing career at Alaska Fairbanks in 2021-22. With the Nanooks, Boyce competed in the 2021 NCAA Rifle Championships and was a key member of the team that was ranked No. 1 in the nation last season.
“I am thrilled to be adding Jessica to our coaching staff this season,” Phillips said at the time of her hiring. “Having recently graduated from one of the top programs in the country, she will bring a wealth of knowledge to our team. I also think Jess has a unique perspective having competed on two NCAA rifle teams. That perspective isn't very common in our sport and will bring something new to the table as we continue to grow. I'm looking forward to what we can do this year with her as a member of our staff.”
Boyce started her career at UTEP, where she was voted the team’s MVP during the 2018-19 campaign. She then transferred to Alaska Fairbanks to finish out her career and earned a bachelor’s degree in sport and recreation with a concentration in sport management and will be pursuing a master’s degree in sports and hospitality management at Memphis.
“I’m very grateful for the opportunity I have to work with the team and with Morgan,” Boyce said. “I want to give back to the community that supported me throughout my career and I couldn’t imagine a better way to do it. I’ve enjoyed my time so far and I’m looking forward to the program’s future.”
During her career, Boyce posted career-best marks at the R.F. Fogelman Rifle Range, notching a 586 in smallbore and a 1178 in aggregate on Nov. 14, 2020. She started her career with the Utah High School Rodeo, competing in the light rifle event, winning the state championship in 2015.
