Memphis Rallies with Eight-Run Sixth to Clinch Series Win Over UTSA

Trailing 4-2 entering the bottom of the sixth, Memphis sent 11 batters to the plate and collected seven hits in the frame to completely swing the momentum. James Smith IV capped the inning with a towering three-run, 383-foot homer to left field as the Tigers turned a two-run deficit into a commanding 10-4 advantage.
The Tigers totaled 12 hits on the afternoon, led by Smith who finished 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. Trae Cassidy added a pair of hits, including a solo homer, while Webb Watson contributed two hits and two RBI in the victory.
Logan Rushing (2-3) earned the win in relief for Memphis, while Mike DeBattista (2-3) suffered the loss for UTSA. Seth Garner turned in a strong start for the Tigers, allowing just one unearned run over 5.0 innings with five strikeouts.
Memphis will face Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro on Tuesday before rounding out the regular season with an away series at Charlotte, starting Thursday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UTSA struck first in the opening inning when Andrew Stucky doubled home Drew Detlefsen to give the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead.
- Memphis answered in the fourth after Freddy Rodriguez singled, stole second and later scored on an RBI single from James Smith IV to tie the game 1-1.
