Gupton, Rushing Tabbed as American Conference Honorable Mentions

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis outfielder Michael Gupton and pitcher Logan Rushing were named as honorable mentions for the American Conference's Player of the Week the conference announced Monday.
Gupton, a senior from Raleigh, N.C., had a big week at the plate for the Tigers, going 6-for-15 (.400), with a double, two home runs, five RBI and a .867 slugging percentage. In Tuesday's game against Mississippi Valley State, Gupton clobbered a two-run home run over the left field wall to push the Tiger's lead to 8-1. In game three at Rice, Gupton helped Memphis complete their series sweep by launching a 395-foot dinger to center field in the fourth inning.
Across the series, Gupton led the Tigers in batting average (.400), home runs (2), RBIs (5), slugging percentage (.867), walks (3) and OPS (1.338). Gupton hit his team-leading 11th homer of the season and brought his RBI total up to 36, also most on the team. Gupton sits third in the American in home runs, eighth in RBI and fifth in slugging percentage (.629).
Rushing, a graduate student from Brighton, Tenn., was dialed in on the mound for Memphis over the week. Over his two appearances, Rushing posted a 0.00 ERA in six innings pitched allowing just two hits and no runs while also adding eight strikeouts. Rushing started the Tigers' midweek game against Mississippi Valley State and pitched three shutout innings while allowing just one hit and striking out five MVSU batters. Rushing then pitched in relief during game three of the Rice series, shutting down the Rice offense over the final three frames by only allowing one hit and striking out three.
Across the series, Rushing led the Tigers in ERA (0.00), runs allowed (0), walks (0), strikeouts (8) and WHIP (0.33). Rushing also lowered his season ERA to 3.20, the best mark on the team.
