NEW ORLEANS, La. – The University of Memphis (6-15, 1-1 American) baseball team fell to Tulane (12-12, 1-1 American), 11-6, Saturday evening at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.

Memphis totaled 10 hits on the night, but a pair of big innings from Tulane proved to be the difference as the Green Wave evened the series.

Second baseman Shane Cox led the Tigers offensively with three RBIs, while Trae Cassidy and Jack Little each recorded multi-hit performances. James Smith IV added a solo home run, his sixth of the season.

On the mound, David Case (1-5) took the loss after allowing eight runs over 5.1 innings, while Seth Garner provided relief, tossing 2.2 innings.

Memphis will look for the series win in the rubber match with Tulane on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. in New Orleans, Louisiana.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Memphis struck first in the second inning when Jack Little doubled to left center to score Michael Gupton, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
Tulane responded with a five-run bottom of the second, capitalizing on four hits and multiple walks to take a 5-1 advantage.
The Tigers answered in the third as Trae Cassidy singled home Javon Hernandez to cut the deficit to 5-2.
Memphis closed the gap further in the fifth when Shane Cox delivered a three-RBI double down the left field line, tying the game at 5-5.
Tulane regained control in the sixth inning, scoring four runs on two hits and a Memphis error to take a 9-5 lead.
The Green Wave added two more runs in the seventh, extending the lead to 11-5.
James Smith IV provided a late spark with a solo home run in the eighth inning, but Memphis could not complete the comeback.
