Four-run Second Inning Propels Tigers to 5-2 Win Over Lipscomb

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis (4-12) baseball team picked up a 5-2 victory over Lipscomb (6-9) Tuesday afternoon at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field.
Memphis did most of its damage in the second inning, scoring four runs to take control of the game early. The Tigers added an insurance run in the seventh and relied on strong pitching out of the bullpen to secure the win.
Seth Impson started on the mound for Memphis, allowing two runs across 4.1 innings before Davis Oswalt took over in relief and earned the win with 2.2 scoreless innings. Brayden Sanders and Carson Fair combined to close out the final two innings, with Fair recording his second save of the season.
The Tigers will remain at home for their next midweek matchup tomorrow when they host Arkansas-Pine Bluff at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Memphis broke through in the second inning after Cade Hitson drew a walk and Javon Hernandez singled to put two runners on base.
- Freddy Rodriguez delivered the big hit of the inning, lining a two-RBI single to left field that scored Hitson and Hernandez.
- After Shane Cox reached on an infield single, a Lipscomb throwing error allowed Rodriguez and Trae Cassidy to score, giving the Tigers a 4-0 lead.
- Lipscomb answered in the fourth inning when Blake Carter hit a two-run home run to left field to cut the Memphis lead to 4-2.
- The Memphis bullpen took over in the fifth inning as Davis Oswalt entered and held the Bisons scoreless over the next 2.2 innings.
