Memphis Falters Late Against Nicholls, 8-7

Memphis exploded out to an early seven-run lead, but stranded runners in scoring position on two occasions as Nicholls had three scoring innings, including a three-run seventh to end the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Memphis did as it has been this season and put runs up before its opposition, this time with a four-run first inning.
- After singles by Paris Brienesse and Jasmine Mack, Faith Brown legged out an infield single and Mack's baserunning led to a second run coming across.
- Brown scored on the next play when Neely Taylor roped a double to the left-center gap.
- Taylor came around to score two batters later on an RBI single by Aubrey Williams.
- After holding Nicholls to one baserunner in the first, Memphis added to its lead with three runs in the second.
- The first came on an RBI single by Jasmine Mack, allowing Kayla Clement to score.
- The second and third runs came on a fielding error by Nicholls' Claire Sisco, with Mack and Brienesse scoring.
- Nicholls began to eat into Memphis' lead with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.
- A fielder's choice error that also had a secondary error on the ensuing fielding chance led to Reagan Heflin scoring for the Colonels.
- An RBI groundout the next play allowed Lillianna Robledo, the previous batter, to score from third.
- Memphis had a chance to seize momentum in the third after hits by Kayla Clement and Ariel Davis put runners at second and third with one out, but the following batters lined out and struck out, respectively.
- Nicholls brought the game closer with three runs in the fifth.
- Laylin Sturm scored on a sacrifice fly by Erin Krause.
- The next at-bat, Claire Sisco scored on a Brynne Songy sacrifice fly.
- The Colonels made it three consecutive scoring plays with an RBI single by Heflin.
- After the Tigers went down in order with a chance to lengthen their lead, the Colonels responded with three runs to end the game on a walk-off.
- Krause tripled down the right-field line, scoring Madison Moak, who walked to lead off the frame.
- Krause came in to score two batters later on a fielding error by Kayla Clement.
- After a Memphis pitching change, a wild pitch moved runners to second and third and Gabby Higbee singled through the left side to bring the game-winning run home.
- Six of Memphis' first nine at-bats resulted in hits, including five in the first inning.
- It was the second time this season that Memphis has been walked off in the bottom of the seventh inning, with the first instance being a 4-3 loss to Arizona State in the Kajikawa Classic.
- Jasmine Mack was 2-for-3 in the loss, logging an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base.
- Mack has a .333 batting average with four doubles and seven RBI going into the week of conference play.
- Kayla Clement recorded her first hit of the season and finished 2-for-2 with a run scored.
- Paris Brienesse logged a two-hit, two-run scored performance.
- Brienesse sits at a .357 batting average with 10 hits on the season after today's game.

- Aubrey Williams brought in a run on her lone hit of the contest.
- Ariel Davis and Deana Cunningham each logged a double in the loss.
- Davis holds a team-leading .385 batting average with 20 hits after 18 games as the only Tiger to have started every game this year.

The Tigers return home for a Tuesday doubleheader against Oakland before beginning American Conference play at home against South Florida (March 6-8) this coming weekend.
