Tigers also pick up forfeit win over Indiana State
Memphis climbed out from a 10-run deficit in the third inning, led by Zereniti Sousa's single-game record nine RBI and a walk-off three-run home run off the bat of Jasmine Mack in the bottom of the seventh. The Tigers were declared winners by forfeit after Indiana State refused to play the final game of the night.
GAME ONE: Memphis 16, Bradley 14
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bradley sprung out to an eight-run lead in the first inning, with five hits, four walks and one Memphis error playing a role with one home run by Bradley's Kierston McCoy on the third pitch of the game.
- Memphis was able to answer with two RBI in the bottom half on RBI singles by Zereniti Sousa and Deana Cunningham.
- After the Braves went scoreless in the second, a two RBI single off the bat of Zereniti Sousa cut the deficit down to four runs.
- Bradley's McCoy picked up two more RBI as the Braves logged six runs in the third on five hits and four Memphis errors in the frame.
- Memphis continued to fight as a sacrifice fly by Aubrey Williams and an RBI groundout by Jasmine Mack led to two more runs in the third.
- After allowing four runs in the first, Taylor Caton reentered the circle and began what would be a stretch of four scoreless innings to keep Bradley at 14 runs in total.
- After both sides went quietly in the fourth, Memphis tacked on four runs in the fifth on an RBI single by Neely Taylor and a three-run home run by Zereniti Sousa.
- In the sixth, Memphis used multiple defensive substitutions to hold Bradley scoreless.
- Those batters reentered in the bottom half of the inning, with Zereniti Sousa logging her seventh, eighth and ninth RBI with a bases-clearing double of the wall.
- This hit gave Sousa the single-game program record of nine RBI.
- Caton and the Memphis defense again stood tall, only allowing one baserunner in the seventh.
- The bottom half of the Memphis lineup was not phased in the bottom of the seventh as pinch hitter Mya Clark reached on a single, Aubrey Williams also singled down the line and Jasmine Mack stepped up and sent the first pitch of her at-bat over the wall in right field to end the game and give Memphis its second walk-off win of the season.
