MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis (1-4-3, 0-1-0 American) men's soccer is seeking its first American Conference win of the season against the UAB Blazers (1-4-1, 0-1-0 American) Sunday night. The match is set for a 7 p.m. kick and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Both squads are coming off nonconference losses during their midweek slate and looking for their first wins of conference play after both Memphis and UAB fell by scores of 1-0 in the opening night of American play.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Memphis (1-4-3, 0-1-0 American) most recently only recorded one shot in a 3-0 loss to RV North Carolina on Tuesday. In the loss, Memphis was outshot 21-1.
The Tigers have failed to find the back of the net in their last 337 minutes of play.
Memphis' last goal was scored on Sept. 3 against FGCU off the foot of Saad Chaouki, who currently leads the team in goals (2) and points (4). A forward pairing of Eben McIntyre and Luciano Galizzi has combined for two goals and four assists on the season thus far. Chaouki and defender Dino Stavros have already eclipsed 600 minutes played on the season, sitting with 672 and 676 minutes, respectively.
Redshirt junior Jakob Buhrkuhl has continued to be the choice in net for the Tigers, making his third-straight start and recording his second consecutive outing with four saves.
SCOUTING THE BLAZERS
UAB (1-4-1, 0-1-0 American) comes into the weekend match after falling to Georgia State on Monday by a score of 1-0.
The Blazers are led by a defensive pairing of 2024 American Conference All-Rookie selections in Ole Jessen and 2024 American Conference Freshman of the Year, Mathis Richter. Richter, a 2025 American Preseason All-Conference selection, leads UAB with 480 minutes played, while Jessen holds the lead for goals with two on the season. Humphrey Doh, a junior from Ghana, leads UAB in assists and total shots with three and 15, respectively.
No Blazer has played more than 500 out of the possible 540 minutes played this season outside of goalkeeper Tom Mabon.
Tom Mabon has been UAB's starting goalkeeper for all six matches this season, notching 14 saves with a .560 save percentage. Outside of a 6-0 loss to Clemson, Mabon has not allowed more than one goal in any of the five other matches that the Blazers have played.
THE SERIES WITH UAB
The Tigers hold a narrow 24-20-1 advantage in the all-time series, with Memphis going 6-3-1 against the Blazers under head coach Richard Mulrooney.
In last year's contest, Memphis secured a 2-0 victory at home with goals scored by Luciano Galizzi and Gabriel Christensen, which was part of a seven-match unbeaten streak that helped the Tigers claim a regular season championship in the American Conference.
