Memphis Volleyball to Host the Carrie Yerty Classic

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis volleyball returns to Elma Roane Fieldhouse to host the Carrie Yerty Classic on Sept. 11-13.
The Tigers will start the classic against Chattanooga at 6 p.m. on Thursday and then Lamar on Friday at 7 p.m. before closing out the weekend against UT Martin at 3 p.m. All matches will be on ESPN+.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Memphis (4-2) returns home after competing in the Denver Classic, where the Tigers defeated Texas Southern following losses to Denver and Idaho State. Amanda Hardt tallied 37 kills and posted a career-high 10 digs over the weekend. Janyah Henderson added 26 kills and 14 blocks, while Maddy Bach matched her career high with 34 assists in back-to-back matches against Idaho State and Texas Southern.
SCOUTING THE FIELD
Chattanooga (2-4) enters the weekend after hosting the Chattanooga Classic and going winless during the invitational. The Mocs dropped matches to Ohio, Alabama and Jacksonville State but saw strong individual performances. Sydney Jackwin posted 23 kills and 27 digs across the weekend, while Kynli Kirkendoll added four blocks.
Lamar (4-2) fell to Sam Houston on Tuesday after going 2-1 at the Green Wave Classic in New Orleans, La. The Cardinals took down Southern and Louisiana Tech, with their lone loss coming against American Conference opponent Tulane. In that matchup, sophomore Maja Malinowska notched her 400th career kill in a back-and-forth contest. Malinowska leads the team offensively with 113 kills, averaging 3.53 per set. Lyric Jordan and Kinley Elms provide balance to the attack with a combined 131 kills and 143 points this season.
UT Martin (0-5) traveled to Murfreesboro, Tenn., for the Blue Raider Bash, where the Skyhawks fell to Mississippi State, Marist and host Middle Tennessee. Kayla Bryant and Kylie Surratt pace the offense, each averaging over two kills per set and combining for 68 total on the year. Bryant tallied 18 kills and Surratt added 11 during the Blue Raider Bash. Freshman Carly Mueller made her presence felt at the net, recording 11 total blocks on the weekend, including five against Marist.
THE SERIES AGAINST THE MOCS, CARDINALS AND SKYHAWKS
Memphis holds a perfect 6-0 record against Chattanooga, with its most recent win coming in 2021. This weekend will mark just the second meeting between Memphis and Lamar, after the Cardinals claimed the first matchup in the series last season. The Tigers hold a 34-3 advantage in the all-time series against UT Martin, though the Skyhawks took the most recent contest in 2021.
