Tigers Drop Contest at Murray State
Dec 15, 2025 | Women's Basketball
MURRAY, Ky. – Memphis women's basketball dropped its game at Murray State, 85-57, on Monday morning at CFSB Center.
Tamya Smith's career day led the way for the Tigers; the sophomore had 27 points on 11-of-17 shooting along with eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. The rest of the Memphis offense was suppressed, as they shot just 37% from the field.
Murray State moves to 3-0 at home this season behind 12 three-pointers and 23 second-chance points. Their barrage from beyond the arc was underway from the jump, converting 5-of-8 attempts in the first quarter. Behind an Education Day crowd of 4,513, the Racers (8-2) used an 11-0 spurt in the beginning of the second quarter to take a commanding 53-29 lead into halftime.
The Tigers (4-7) fought back after the break, as six points from Smith fueled an 8-0 start to the third period. The hosts would put the comeback bid to rest with a 10-0 run of their own as the Memphis scoring would slow after the opening minutes.
Kennedi Alexander added seven points and six rebounds thanks to a productive fourth quarter. The Tiger defense held Murray State to 24.2% shooting in the second half but could not generate enough offense to cut into their deficit.
Guard Halli Poock had 22 points and 10 rebounds behind four three-pointers, her first double-double of the season. Three additional Racers recorded at least 14 points.
Memphis will conclude its three-game road trip on Saturday, December 20, in Hammond, Louisiana when they take on Southeastern Louisiana at 1 p.m.
