Tigers Fall to South Florida in Home Finale

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis (10-19, 1-13 American) dropped its final home match of the season to South Florida (15-10, 11-3 American) in straight sets inside Elma Roane Fieldhouse Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams traded points early before South Florida went on a 4-0 run to take a 6-3 lead. Jasmyn Tate and Za'Niya Boyles responded with kills to even the set at 11. Arianna Beckham powered the Bulls ahead with a pair of kills to regain momentum, while Brianna Washington, Zaniah Hoskins and Tate each added kills to keep the Tigers within reach. However, Maria Clara Andrade, Addy Brus and Laila Ivey closed out the frame for the Bulls with a string of kills to secure the 25-23 win.
The Bulls carried that energy into the second set, jumping out to an early 8-2 lead. Janyah Henderson and Maddy Bach provided some offense for Memphis, but Brus and Andrade combined for seven kills to keep the Bulls in control of the set. Washington and Hoskins helped the Tigers chip away at the deficit before South Florida capitalize on Memphis' attack errors to claim the set, 25-21.
The third set mirrored the second as South Florida opened on a 5-3 run behind kills from Andrade and Iyanna Garvin. Washington answered with a kill before the Bulls responded with a 4-0 run for a 9-4 advantage. South Florida extended its lead with another 3-0 push highlighted by a kill from Ivey, an attack error and a service ace from Samiha Foster. Henderson, Washington, Tate and Hoskins each recorded late kills for the Tigers, but South Florida maintained its momentum to close the match, 25-17.
NOTABLES
- Zaniah Hoskins led the Tigers offensively with 10 kills and 11 points.
- The freshman has now put up 10-plus kills in 14 matches this season.
- Brianna Washington followed with seven kills and 8.5 points.
- Setters Maddy Bach and Sydney Marshall recorded double-figured assists with 16 and 10 respectively.
- Bach added another kill to the stat sheet, marking the 11th time this season that the freshman setter has registered a kill.
- Abigail Schlueter put up 13 digs in today's match.
- Janyah Henderson and Hoskins each had two block assists in today's contest.

Memphis closes the regular season on the road in North Carolina, beginning with Charlotte on Friday at 5 p.m. CT before facing East Carolina on Sunday at noon CT. Both matches will be broadcast on ESPN+.
