Tigers to Host Alabama A&M in Nonconference Action

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tigers are set to return home for a nonconference match against Alabama A&M on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
The match marks each program's final nonconference contest of the regular season before continuing with competition in their respective conferences.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Memphis (9-11, 1-5 American) enters Wednesday's contest after dropping a pair of road matches against Wichita State and Tulsa last weekend.
Freshman Riley McCloskey led the Tigers with 12 kills across the two matches, while Janyah Henderson paced the team with 15.5 total points. McCloskey also added eight digs, two aces and one total block.
Sophomore setter Sydney Marshall totaled 33 assists, highlighted by a career-high 22 against Wichita State, while Maddy Bach followed with 16 assists on the weekend.
Three Tigers tallied double-digit digs — Abigail Schlueter (19), Marshall (18) and Bach (10). Schlueter's 19 digs bring her season total to 160, which ranks seventh in the American Conference.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Alabama A&M (14-4, 5-1 SWAC) comes to Memphis riding momentum after a straight-set win over Mississippi Valley State Monday evening.
Nisaan Martinez led the Bulldogs with 13 kills and 15 points in the victory. Rayishon Jackman added six kills, giving her 204 kills and 233.5 points this season, averaging 3.24 kills and 3.71 points per set.
Defensively, Kelani Talakai posted 12 digs in the win, bringing her season total to 272 (4.12 digs per set), which ranks third in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Briana Smith recorded 16 assists to bring her season total to 406, averaging 6.15 assists per set, ranking second in the SWAC.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST ALABAMA A&M
This Wednesday marks the ninth matchup between Memphis and Alabama A&M with the all-time series sitting at 7-1 in favor of the Tigers. The Bulldogs secured a five-set win in the most recent matchup in 2018, while the first seven matches in the all-time series were straight-set wins by Memphis.
