Memphis Falls to Golden Hurricane

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Memphis volleyball team (9-11, 1-5 American) dropped a three-set match to Tulsa (15-3, 5-1 American) Sunday afternoon inside the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams battled early in the opening frame until Olivia Vance sparked a 7-0 Tulsa run with a kill to swing the momentum. Janyah Henderson, Riley McCloskey, and Génesis Rodríguez added kills for Memphis to keep things close, but Tulsa pulled away to take the first set, 25-15, behind Vance's six kills.
The second set opened much like the first with both teams trading points early. Lauren Eitler recorded a kill to start a 4-0 Tulsa run, but Memphis responded with a 3-0 spurt capped by a kill from Jasmyn Tate. Tulsa then answered with another 4-0 run featuring kills from Vance and Beth Bayless, securing another 25-15 set win.
Memphis fought hard in the final frame, taking a 6-4 lead following a kill from Za'Niya Boyles. Tulsa responded with separate runs of four and seven points, capitalizing on Tiger attack errors. The Golden Hurricane closed out the match with a 3-0 burst, highlighted by kills from Vance and Bayless.
NOTABLES
- Riley McCloskey recorded the first two service aces of her career.
- Three Tigers led the offense as Janyah Henderson, Génesis Rodríguez, and Brianna Washington each had five kills.
- Henderson totaled 5.5 points, while Rodríguez and Washington each had five.
- Za'Niya Boyles and McCloskey followed with four kills apiece.
- Génesis Rodríguez set a season high in both kills (5) and points (5).
- She also recorded her first solo block of the season.
- Sydney Marshall tallied a team-high 11 assists in the contest.
- Abigail Schlueter tallied 12 digs in the loss.
- Memphis posted season lows in both kills (25) and team points (30).
