
TIgers Prepare for Midweek Match at Belmont

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis men's soccer travels to E.S. Rose Park in Nashville where it will take on Belmont in a nonconference match Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Memphis (4-4-1, 2-0-0 AAC) is coming off a strong 2-0 home victory against UAB in rainy conditions, last Saturday. Memphis gained the lead early, as Luciano Galizzi scored from a Lleyton Imparato corner kick, and stalled any incoming chances from UAB's attackers.
While holding possession in the final minutes of the match, Gabriel Christensen slipped by two Blazer defenders and scored Memphis's second goal of the match with just 14 seconds remaining.
Filip Sabatti garnered honors as the AAC Goalkeeper of the Week, recording his first clean sheet of the season, moving to a 4-2-1 record on the season. In his 630 minutes played, he leads Memphis with 27 saves and a 1.29 goals against average.
Galizzi earned an AAC honorable mention after scoring the game-winning goal against the Blazers. Jackson Kim also earned an honorable mention as he was part of the back line that only allowed five shots on goal.
Belmont (2-4-3, 0-2-1 Valley) comes into the match on a six-match winless streak. Most recently, the Bruins fell to Bowling Green by a score of 1-0 at Cochrane Stadium in Bowling Green, Ohio.
Goalkeeper Grant Calvert was the top performer for the Bruins against the Falcons. He recorded seven saves and kept Belmont in the match after conceding a goal in the 39th minute.
Midfielder AJ Chastonay leads Belmont in scoring production as he has seven goal contributions (five goals, two assists) on the season. His five goals account for over half of Belmont's scoring this season. In net, Grant Calvert has started every match, posting a 2-4-3 record and 21 saves in 810 minutes played.
This will be the 20th time that Memphis and Belmont have faced each other in a match, with Memphis holding a 17-1-1 record in the series. Last season, Belmont traveled to Memphis, where the Tigers secured a 2-1 victory. Memphis's only loss in the series came in 1997 when it traveled to Nashville and suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Bruins.
Memphis will host the ninth-ranked Charlotte 49ers at home in a matchup on Saturday (Oct. 5) at 7 p.m. on ESPN+. Memphis and Charlotte are currently the only two teams in the AAC with a perfect conference record of 2-0-0.
