The Tigers Host Bluff City Showdown this Weekend

Memphis, Tenn. – The University of Memphis volleyball team will host the Bluff City Showdown at the Larry O. Finch Center this weekend September 12-14.
Memphis will play Thursday at 6 p.m. against Arkansas Pine-Bluff, Friday at 7 p.m. against Lamar, and Saturday at 4 p.m. against Indiana State. Thursday and Saturday matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Tigers come into the tournament with a 3-3 record after defeating Jackson State last weekend at the Saluki Bash. Memphis has accumulated 261 kills, averaging 12.43 kills per set.
Hannah Jones continues to lead the team with 56 kills. Freshman Tiffany Snook had an impressive tournament last weekend, now totaling 39 kills. Clara Bednarek follows behind with 29 kills after making her season debut at the Saluki Bash.
Memphis averages 11.48 assists per set, led by Jordan Heatherly who has recorded 180 assists on the season
Defensively, Memphis is averaging 14.62 digs per set, led by Abigail Schlueter with 75 digs so far. Clara added a huge presence at the net getting her hands on 10 blocks this past weekend.
Arkansas Pine-Bluff (0-7) comes into the tournament after a 3-0 loss to Oral Roberts on Tuesday and is led by Zykia Jones with 47 kills.
The Cardinals (3-3) come into the weekend on a three-game win streak with victories over Prairie View A&M, Grambling, and Nicholls. Lamar is led by Outside Hitter Lyric Jordan who has accumulated 93 kills on the season and averages 4.43 kills per set. On the defensive side, Keely Nellis holds a team-best 94 digs while Freshmen Middle Blockers Annie Cathey and Ashlyn Gamble have a dominating 24 blocks combined.
Indiana State (1-4) is coming off back-to-back losses against Butler where Elise Ward had 16 kills and 16 digs in their last match.
