
Tigers Close Out the Weekend with a Gritty Win

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Volleyball team closed out the Carrie Yerty Classic with a gritty win Saturday afternoon.
Memphis (2-1) battled hard against the Austin Peay Governors (1-2) to come out with a 3-0 sweep. Hannah Jones led the Tigers with a season-high 10 kills. Madison Rice-Locket tallied nine kills while Autumn Flynn contributed eight.
Jordan Heatherly picked up where she left off at the service line, recording three aces. Tabytha Toelke matched with three aces and racked up 13 digs.
The match started close until the Tigers went on a 6-2 run to win the first set 25-20. The Governors jumped out to an early lead in the second set going up 13-7. However, the Tigers never gave up, pushing through to win 21-25. Memphis dominated at the beginning of the third set, until Austin Peay came back and tied it 19-19. The Tigers finished the game on another 6-2 run winning 25-21.
Jordan Heatherly and Hannah Jones were named to the Carrie Yerty Classic All-Tournament team.
The Tigers will travel to Carbondale, Illinois next weekend to play in the Saluki Bash. Memphis will take on Eastern Illinois, Southern Illinois, and Jackson State.
