No. 8 Tigers Open American Athletic Conference Championship Against No. 9 East Carolina

FORT WORTH, Texas – The University of Memphis women's basketball team kicks-off its postseason run Sunday afternoon in the Second Round of the American Athletic Conference Championship against East Carolina.
Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. CT with coverage available on ESPN+.
Memphis (13-16) comes into the tournament winning five of its last six games in AAC play, including a 72-70 victory over the Pirates just three weeks ago. Shelbee Brown had a career day with 19 points and 10 rebounds while Alasia Smith laid in the game-winning bucket before having back-to-back game-saving blocks on the defensive end.
For the season, Madison Griggs and Smith, who were named to the AAC's All-Conference Second Team and Newcomer Team, respectively, have led the team offensively with a combined 26.8 points per game. On the boards, Brown and Smith have held down the fort, bringing down a team-best 390 rebounds this season.
East Carolina (16-13) ended the regular season with a 71-66 win over Charlotte behind a 25-point performance from Danae McNeal.
McNeal and Amiya Joiner have led the team this season with 21.1 and 12.9 points per contest this season while Joiner and Tatyana Wyche have grabbed a combined 425 rebounds.
The Pirates took the first meeting between the two teams earlier this season when they took the 64-63 win over the Tigers in Memphis. Turnovers proved to be the downfall of the Tigers, nine of which came in the final 10 minutes of play.
Sunday's game will be the third meeting between Memphis and East Carolina this season while marking the third consecutive year that the Tigers and Pirates have met in the American Athletic Conference Championship.
