
Memphis Opens Conference Play Against Tulsa

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team will host Tulsa to open American Athletic Conference play this weekend at Tiger Softball Complex.The series will begin with a doubleheader Saturday March 9 at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. The series will conclude on Sunday March 10 at 12 p.m.
The Tigers (3-16) dropped their midweek game to Ole Miss 9-0 Tuesday night. Memphis recorded three hits in the game from McKaylee Polk, Zoe Adebayo and Presley Morris.
Polk carries a season-best 5-game hitting streak into the series. She and Adebayo lead the Tigers with a .326 batting clip.
"I told the team the other day conference play is the second season of softball. Competing hard for three games against the same opponent isn't an easy task and it takes a lot of discipline, grit, and growth mindset," head coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro said. "We are looking forward to getting conference play started this week and continuing to stick with the process of finding ways to get better each game out."
Memphis is currently hitting .221 as a team with three Tigers batting .300 or higher: Polk (.326), Adebayo (.326) and Arianna Cox-Cole (.300). Adebayo leads Memphis with nine RBI on the season, followed by Khamiyah Brown's seven.
Madison Berner, Adebayo, Cox-Cole and Khamiyah Brown have all recorded five or more RBI on the year.
Tulsa (12-7) is coming off an 8-4 victory over Kansas City in the TU/OSU Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The Golden Hurricane are 4-2 on the road this season heading into the first weekend of AAC play.
Tulsa is batting at a .345 clip while allowing holding its opponents to a.262 average. The Golden Hurricane have four players hitting over .350: MacKenzie Denson (.469) Imani Edwards (.444), Abby Jones (.387) and Claira Skaggs (.379).
The Golden Hurricane carries a team ERA of 4.94 and is led in the circle by Kylee Nash with a 3.72 ERA. Nash has three wins in 29.0 innings of work.
