Memphis Falls in Midweek Matchup to Ole Miss

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team dropped its midweek matchup with Ole Miss 9-0 Tuesday night at Tiger Softball Complex.
The Tigers (3-16) found themselves in scoring position throughout the game, recording three hits and four walks, but were unable to convert them into runs. McKaylee Polk recorded her fifth-straight game with a hit, singling up the middle in the bottom of the second inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Ole Miss struck in the top of the first inning when Paige Smith hit a 2-run shot over the center field wall.
• The Rebels added to their lead when Jalia Lassiter singled up the middle allowing Taylor Malvin to reach home in the top of the second frame. Ole Miss put up one more run before closing the inning with a 4-0 lead.
• Memphis picked up its first hit of the game as Polk singled up the middle in the home half of the second inning. Presley Morris loaded the bases with one out on a single to left field after Zoe Adebayo drew a walk. However, the Tigers stranded the runners after a strikeout and a fielder's choice to end the frame.
• Ole Miss extended its lead when Jamie Mackay crossed the dish on a sacrifice fly in the top of the third inning. The Rebels tacked on another in the top of the fourth behind a Smith homer to left.
• The Rebels added one run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to close out the scoring.
• Adebayo singled to shallow left field to put two Tigers on base with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Both runners advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch, but were left stranded with a strikeout to close the game.
NOTABLES
• Three Tigers recorded hits: Presley Morris, Polk and Adebayo.
• Taniyah Brown got the start going 1.2 innings with one strikeout.
• Abigail Morgan came in on relief in the top of the second fame, tossing 4.1 innings of work with one strikeout.

• The Tigers will open conference play Friday against Tulsa at Tiger Softball Complex. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
