Tigers Wrap Weekend at Ole Miss Classic

OXFORD, Miss. – The University of Memphis track and field team competed at its second outdoor meet of the season at the Ole Miss Classic at the Ole Miss Track and Field Facility in Oxford, Mississippi, over the weekend. The Tigers fought through rainy conditions on Friday and finished up competition Saturday afternoon.
"I thought we definitely had some bright spots and some good individual performances," head coach Kevin Robinson said. "Overall, as a team, I think we under-performed. We have a lot of work to do and a lot of ground to make up. We have a talented roster; we just need to compete with more composure."
NOTABLES
• Jadaja Baxter won the meet in her outdoor long-jump season debut with a jump of 5.91 meters (19'4.75"). Simone Harper finished as runner up with a jump of 5.54 meters (18'2.25").
• Freshman Julia Konigshofer made her mark with a season-best throw in the javelin, taking first place with a throw of 44.30 meters (145'4").
• Memphis women took half of the top eight spots in the women's 200 meters. Kyndia Matlock took third overall with a time of 24.50. Madison Fleming finished closely behind in 24.59. Gizel Clayton not only won her heat but put down a personal-best time as well with a 24.65. Gabrielle Cross ran herself into the top-seven spots as well, running 24.76.
• Running 9:24.57 in the men's steeplechase, Liam Walsh finished runner up.
• lason Machairas placed eighth in men's shotput with a throw of 16.93 meters.
• Pole vaulter Arina Razina cleared 3.62 meters on Saturday to finish sixth.
• Lewis LaGrant earned fourth place with Dajuan Montague right next to him in fifth. Both jumped 1.99 meters (6'6.25") in men's high jump.
• Matlock, Baxter, Fleming and Clayton finished runner up in the women's 4x100-meter relay with a time of 46.44.
• Women's 100-meter hurdles saw three Memphis women finish inside the top-six spots after commotion at the finish line. Fleming took first place in 13.70. Third place went to Clayton after she ran 13.99 and Harper took fifth place with a time of 14.14.
• Cedric Johnson ran 15.08 and placed seventh in the men's 110-meter hurdles.
• Cross ran 55.61 in the women's 400-meter dash to finish runner up. Courtland Noble ran the men's 400-meter dash in 48.63 seconds and finished seventh.
• Reezon Eke finished eighth in the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:21.30.
• Adam Yakobi placed second overall with a time of 54.13 in the men's 400-meter hurdles.
• In the women's 3,000 meters, the Tigers took four of the top-eight spots. Chloe Figgins finished runner up with a time of 10:03.48. Ann Marie Braese took fifth place running 10:26.66. Not too far behind her was Jalyssa Smith who ran 10:26.83. To top it off, Ximena Lopez de Escalera ran 10:43.89 to finish eighth.
