Tigers Kick Off Outdoor Season With 11 Event Wins at Rhodes Invite

MEMPHIS, Ten. – The University of Memphis track and field team competed at their first outdoor meet of the season, competing at the Rhodes Invitational at The Winston Wolfe Track and Field Complex in Memphis, Tennessee over the weekend. The Tigers were highlighted with 11 individual first place finishes as a team.
"Friday provided some very challenging conditions to say the least, but we did what we could to deal with that," head coach Kevin Robinson said. "Saturday was a great day. Warm weather, little wind and I felt we came together well for the first outdoor meet. We were able to set a number of personal bests, which is a very solid way to start the year."
NOTABLES
• Lewis LaGrant and Dajuan Montague tied for first place in the men's high jump with 1.90-meter (6' 2.75") clearances.
• Sascha Salesius Schmidt threw his way into a first-place finish during men's shot put with a big throw of 17.98 meters (59'0").
• Will Dibo won the men's discus with a throw of 54.00 meters (177'2"), also winning the men's hammer on Friday with a huge personal-best throw of 62.81 meters (206'1").
• AAC 60-meter hurdles champ Madison Fleming won her heat and the overall women's 100-meter dash with a time of 11.84.
• Kyndia Matlock placed first in her first women's 400-meter race of the season with a time of 56.84.
• Gabrielle Cross ran her way to an event win in the women's 800-meter race with a time of 2:17.32.
• Placing first overall, Ashleigh Anderson ran 17:30.66 in the women's 5,000 meters.
• Freshman Julia Konigshofer started her college career off strong with a first-place throw of 44.22 meters (145'1") in the women's javelin.
• Riley Simmons won the women's hammer with a throw of 48.98 meters (160'8").
• Poorna Raorane placed first in women's shot put with a throw of 15.09 meters (49'6.25").
