Tigers Shift Gears to Outdoor Season, Open at Rhodes Invitational in Memphis
Â
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis track and field team will shift gears and kick off its outdoor season on Friday, March 15 and Saturday, March 16 at the Rhodes Invitational in Memphis, Tennessee.
Â
"Excited for the opportunity for my javelin throwers to get back to work," head coach Kevin Robinson said. "We definitely have some solid events as we go outdoors now. For now, [the goal will be] training through the first couple of meets. I still expect to see some very strong performances, just not quite at the level we will be at come May. It's always fun getting back outside though, I think the entire team would agree to that."
Â
Competition is slated to begin Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. with men's and women's hammer throw. Running events will begin at 5:45 p.m. on Friday with women's 5,000 meters. Action will resume Saturday morning with men's and women's pole vault at 9:30 a.m. Live results are available to follow here.

Madison Fleming won the women's 60-meter hurdles crown at the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 24, shattering her own school record with a meet-winning time of 8.17. Teammate Gizel Clayton took bronze in the same race (8.35) to give the Tigers a pair of medalists in the women's hurdles.
Â
Additional medalists for the Tigers at the AAC Indoor Championships included Will Dibo (runner up, men's weight throw), Iason Machairas (runner up, men's shot put), Sascha Salesius Schmidt (bronze, men's shot put). Women's long jumper Jadaja Baxter broke a 27-year-old school record at the AAC Indoor Championships in the women's long jump with a 6.15-meter jump (20'2.25") and finished fourth overall to wrap up indoor season.
