MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's tennis team claimed a 4-0 sweep against in-state opponent Austin Peay Tuesday afternoon at Leftwich Tennis Center.

The win improved the Tigers to 4-2 on the year, while the Governors dropped to 0-4.

Memphis was hot to start the match, picking up a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles behind Emily Meyer and Monique Woog before Alice Amendola and Micah Pierce clinched from court three, 6-3.

In singles action, the Tigers won just three of their first sets, but those three went on to take their point in straight sets. Amendola rolled on court four (6-0, 6-1), while Pierce followed suite on court five (6-2, 6-1) to put the Tigers up 3-0 in the match.

Woog, from court three, and Miriam Grosmann, from court six, sent their respective matches into three sets with victories in the second frame.

With Memphis' top singles player out with an illness, Leonie Moeller stepped into the top spot and finished off the victory 6-2, 6-3.

"Today was a good day, after the Vanderbilt loss," Memphis assistant coach Ryan Hammond said. "It was good to come out on our home court and get the victory. We had a lot of girls have some comebacks today, which showed a lot of grit and determination.

"We had our No. 1 out today with illness, so for everyone to move up a spot and step up showed a great effort."

Memphis hits the road Friday to play at Iowa (10 a.m.) then returns home Sunday host Mississippi State at Leftwich Tennis Center at noon.
