No. 13 Tigers Host UTSA Wednesday Looking for Ninth-Straight Win
Jan 09, 2024 | Men's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The No. 13 Memphis Tigers go for a ninth-straight win Wednesday night at FedExForum against American Athletic Conference newcomer UTSA. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
The Tigers are fresh off wins at Tulsa and against SMU, and improving to 3-0 in AAC play would keep Memphis atop the league standings in the early goings of the conference season. The wins also helped the Tigers climb to No. 13 in both the AP and Coaches poll.
Fifth-year senior point guard Jahvon Quinerly came through in the clutch for Memphis with nearly identical game-winning 3-pointers in the final four seconds against both the Golden Hurricane and Mustangs. He was named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll on Monday for his efforts.
Wednesday's meeting will be just the second all-time between Memphis and UTSA. The Tigers won a 78-72 decision in Memphis on Dec. 20, 1993.
The matchup will be the first of the season against a ranked opponent for the Roadrunners, who bring a 7-8 overall mark to the Bluff City. UTSA is coming off its first-ever AAC victory, defeating Rice 89-82 in overtime in Houston.
Following Wednesday's game, the Tigers hit the road to face Wichita State at noon on ESPN2 Sunday before returning home Jan. 18 for a 6 p.m. tilt with South Florida.
