Cardiac Cats Hang on to Defeat UTSA in Overtime, Extend Win Streak to Nine

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The 13th-ranked University of Memphis men's basketball team hung on to win a nail-biter, 107-101, over American Athletic Conference opponent UTSA in overtime on Wednesday night inside FedExForum to extend its win streak to nine games.
During Memphis' nine-game heater, the Tigers (14-2, 3-0 AAC) have won seven games by six points or less, now including a pair of overtime wins. UTSA (7-9, 1-2 AAC) shot 44.7-percent from the field and 17-of-45 (37.8-percent) from three-point range as Memphis struggled to defend on the perimeter.
The Tigers trailed by two at the half before a 59-point second half knotted the score at 94-94 to force overtime. Senior forward David Jones (26) and fifth-year guard Jahvon Quinerly (25) combined for 51 of the Tigers' 107 points in the win, with 20 points coming from each of them in the second half and OT. Jones pulled down 11 rebounds additionally to notch his first double-double of the season. Junior forward Nicholas Jourdain filled up the stat sheet and recorded a double-double as well, scoring a season-high 18 points and grabbing season-high 12 boards.
Memphis shot 47.8-percent from three (11-for-23) and 53.2-percent overall in the comeback win in route to the first 100-point output of the season. The win marked the first for the Tigers when scoring 100-plus points since Nov. 16, 2019, in a 102-56 victory over Alcorn State and was the fifth time the Tigers have gone over the century mark under head coach Penny Hardaway.
Senior guard Jaykwon Walton chipped in 13 points to match his second-highest scoring output of the season to go along with five assists, and a pair of rebounds and steals. Malcolm Dandridge marked the fifth Tiger in double digits with his 10-point, four-rebound game.
