Jan 06, 2024 | Men's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The No. 15 Memphis Tigers look to continue the momentum and extend their seven-game win streak Sunday afternoon when SMU visits FedExForum for an American Athletic Conference showdown on ESPN at 4 p.m.
Memphis (12-2, 1-0 AAC) earned a 78-75 win at Tulsa Thursday night in the conference opener behind a game-winning triple from Jahvon Quinerly with four seconds left in the game. The Tigers led by 14 at the half, but after witnessing Caleb Mills go down with an injury, they struggled to find any rhythm on both ends of the court in the final 20 minutes.
The game-winning triple from Quinerly ended up being the only made three from the Tigers in the second half (1-of-11).
The Tigers return to the building where they've won six-straight and 45 of their last 50.
In six seasons under head coach Penny Hardaway, Memphis is 74-10 at home. The only team to win multiple games at FedExForum against the Tigers in that span is SMU. Memphis is 3-2 at home against the Mustangs under Hardaway.
Memphis leads the all-time series with SMU, 18-15, after winning both matchups last season. It marked the first time that the Tigers had swept two meeting with the Mustangs in the same season since 2008-09.
UP NEXT
Memphis stays home to host AAC newcomer UTSA at 7 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 10) on ESPN+. It will be only the second matchup between the programs in history, the first since 1993-94.
