No. 15 Tigers Hang on in Tulsa to Win AAC Opener

TULSA, Okla. – The 15th-ranked University of Memphis men's basketball team went on the road and defeated the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, 78-75, in the Tigers' American Athletic Conference opener Thursday night.
Fifth-year guard Jahvon Quinerly nailed a game-winning three with just four seconds left to seal the win for Memphis (12-2, 1-0 AAC).
The Tigers were led by a pair of 17-point efforts from David Jones and Nae'Qwan Tomlin. Jones added eight rebounds, a block and an assist while Tomlin chipped in seven boards, a pair of assists, a block and a steal. Senior guard Jaykwon Walton had a game-high five steals and tallied 11 points, while Malcolm Dandridge poured in 10 points.
The Tigers shot lights out in the first half, knocking down 64-percent of their shots to carry a 49-35 lead into the half. Tulsa tightened up on the defensive end in the second half and caught fire from three-point range (9-for-21, 43-percent in the second half) to work themselves back into the game in the final minutes. Memphis shot 50-percent from the field in the win.
Tulsa (9-4, 0-1 AAC) was led by PJ Haggerty's 27 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals in 38 minutes.

Memphis returns home to host a pair of games against SMU (Jan. 7) and UTSA (Jan. 10). The Mustangs come to town 9-4 overall and No. 45 in the NET rankings for a 4 p.m. showdown on ESPN.
