Tigers Host South Florida Before Traveling to SMU

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's basketball team looks to continue the win streak this week when they host South Florida on Thursday night before heading to Dallas to take on SMU on Saturday afternoon.
Thursday's tip-off inside Elma Roane Fieldhouse is scheduled for 7 p.m. with Saturday's game starting at 2 p.m. Coverage of both games can be found on ESPN+.
Memphis (7-12, 3-5 AAC) is coming off its first back-to-back wins after taking a 73-66 win over Rice this past Saturday. Alasia Smith, who was named to the American Athletic Conference's Weekly Honor Roll, led the team with 15 points and 13 rebounds while Hannah Riddick came off the bench for 11 points and 12 boards for her first double-double of the season.
The Tigers used a 21-13 third quarter to take a lead as large as 15 while forcing the Owls into five turnovers. Memphis cruised to the seven-point victory to give them the team's first consecutive wins this season.
Fifth year Madison Griggs has gone off for Memphis with 16.4 points per game while draining 53 three-pointers this season. Smith and Kai Carter have helped Griggs on the offensive end with a combined 20.0 points between the two.
While being an offensive threat ranking 5th in the country in offensive rebounds per game, the Tigers have also given their opponents struggles, forcing teams into more than 20 turnovers per game – good for 29th best in Division I.
South Florida (12-9, 4-4 AAC) comes into Thursday's game off a 54-40 win over East Carolina that broke a three-game losing skid. The Bulls used a 34-14 second half to take the lead while holding the Pirates to just 15% shooting in the third and fourth quarters. Romi Levy led the team with 21 points while Evelien Lutje Schipohlt grabbed 10 boards.
For the season, Levy and Vittoria Blasigh lead the team with a combined 16.9 points per contest with Lutje Schipohlt grabbing a team-best 151 rebounds.
After getting down by as much as 14, Memphis cut the Bulls lead to five with just over 90 seconds left on the clock last season. Late free throws secured the South Florida 67- 62 win with Madison Griggs and Hannah Riddick adding in 14 and 12 points, respectively.
SMU (10-10, 4-5 AAC) picked up wins over Temple and UTSA last week with four Mustang players scoring in double figures in the team's win over the Roadrunners.
Tiara Young and Chante Embry lead the team with 18.4 and 11.3 points per game this season while Amirah Abdur-Rahim is bringing down a team-high 6.5 rebounds per game.
The Mustangs and Tigers met earlier this season in an NCAA record-breaking game that went to double overtime with SMU finishing the game with just four players. The Mustangs came away with the 91-86 victory.
