Tigers Turn in Strong Performances in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Memphis track and field team was back on the track this weekend, competing at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky, on Friday and Saturday.
"We had some very solid performances this weekend. It was good to see the team in action so that we can start identifying what needs to be focused on," head coach Kevin Robinson said. "All in all, it was a successful weekend. There is much work to be done, but we saw some very promising early marks."
NOTABLES
• On Friday morning, Will Dibo turned in a strong performance in the men's weight throw to kickstart the meet for the Tigers. Dibo finished as runner up with a 19.61-meter (64'4") throw.
• In the men's long jump Friday morning, freshman Myles Gentry took third with a personal-best jump of 7.02 meters (23'0.5").
• Jadaja Baxter had a standout performance for the Tigers. She won the women's long jump on Friday with a 5.96-meter (19'6.75) – good for No. 4 in The American this season.
• Prior Ochonogor put down a time of 21.75 in the men's 200 meters to finish third in personal-best time. His time ranks sixth-fastest in the conference so far in 2024.Ochonogor doubled back on Saturday to run 48.31 in the quarter mile and finish eighth. Teammate Courtland Noble finished ninth (48.33).
• A pair of Tigers (Gizel Clayton, Madison Fleming) advanced from the preliminary rounds to qualify for the women's 60-meter hurdle final on Saturday morning. Clayton put down the second-fastest time in program history in the prelims (8.34) and the school-record holder Fleming qualified sixth-fastest in 8.42. Clayton went on to run 8.36 in the final to finish fourth while Fleming (8.54) crossed in seventh. Clayton (8.34) and Fleming (8.36) rank No. 2 and No. 3 in the AAC so far this season, respectively.
• In the women's 400 meters, Gabrielle Cross ran a time of 55.40 to finish fourth.
• Sascha Salesius Schmidt threw the shot 17.17 meters (56'4") to finish fifth on the men's side.
• In the women's shot put, Poorna Raorane (14.88m / 48'10") and Riley Simmons (13.82m / 45'4.25") finished fourth and eighth, respectively.

• The Tigers are back on the road next weekend, Feb. 4 at the USA Jaguar Invitational in Mobile, Alabama.
