BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Memphis track and field team was back on the track on Sunday, competing at the Jaguar Invitational at The CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama. The Tigers collected meet wins in the men's weight throw (Will Dibo) and women's 200 meters (Jadaja Baxter).
"Overall, we saw some continued progress," head coach Kevin Robinson said. "It wasn't the break-out meet I was hoping for, but we still found some successes.
The Tigers were highlighted by a big performance in the men's weight throw from sophomore Will Dibo. The Vienna, Austria, native launched a lifetime-best mark of 21.29 meters (69'10.25") to win the event and put his name at No. 2 all-time in the event at Memphis, behind only 2010 NCAA runner-up Steffen Nerdal. Dibo's mark ranks second in The American, third in the NCAA South Region and No. 24 in the NCAA this season.
"Will threw the No. 2 all-time throw here at Memphis as just a sophomore," Robinson remarked. "He broke his lifetime best by nearly 1.5 meters tonight, and there is still a lot left in the tank. He is doing a great job adapting to the implement and is becoming more and more technical with it every week."
