Tigers Back on the Track in Louisville This Weekend

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Memphis track and field team will be back on the track this weekend to compete at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky, on Friday and Saturday. Live results are available to follow at this link.
Competition begins at 10 a.m. on Friday with men's long jump and the heptathlon 60 meters. Action resumes at 10 a.m. on Saturday with the heptathlon 60-meter hurdles.
"We're excited to get back on the road. The weather prevented us from training and competing last week, so this is long overdue," head coach Kevin Robinson said. "I'm looking for some strong performances to kick start the season."
At the season-opening BSC Icebreaker on Dec. 1, Madison Fleming won a pair of gold medals in the 60 meters and 60-meter hurdles to lead the Tigers. Memphis also won men's shot put (Sascha Salesius Schmidt), men's weight throw (Will Dibo) and the women's 400 meters (Gabrielle Cross).
NOTABLES
• Indoor 60-meter hurdles school-record holder Madison Fleming is back in 2024 after a breakout season on the track a year ago. Fleming took bronze at the 2023 AAC Indoor Championships with her school-record time of 8.28.
• Fleming won the 60-meter hurdles (8.36) at the season-opening BSC Icebreaker back on Dec. 1 and doubled back to win the 200 meters in personal-best time (24.33).
• Will Dibo returns on the men's side after earning a silver medal in the weight throw at last season's AAC Indoor Championships.
• Dibo won the weight throw on Dec. 1 at the BSC Icebreaker with a big personal-best throw (19.79m / 64'11.25").
• AAC shot-put bronze medalists Sascha Salesius Schmidt and Poorna Raorane each return for the Tigers on the men's and women's squads, respectively.
• Salesius Schmidt led a one-two Tiger punch in the men's shot put at the BSC Icebreaker, winning the meet with a 17.11-meter throw.
• Gabrielle Cross won the women's 400 meters (55.33, PR) at the BSC Icebreaker on Dec. 1 to open her season.
