Memphis Volleyball Travels to the Pacific Northwest for the Husky Invitational

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Tigers head to the pacific northwest for the Husky Invitational, hosted by the University of Washington. Memphis will participate in the four-team tournament, with matches against UNLV at 4 p.m. and Washington at 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7 and FIU at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8.
Washington is currently sitting at 4-1 and boasting a four-match win streak through the first two weeks of play. The Huskies are hitting .242 and averaging 11.8 kills per set. Washington is also posting 2.5 aces per set, with 47 overall and 14.0 digs per set. Three Huskies have totaled over 50 kills on the season, May Pertofsky (58), Madi Endsley (56) and Audra Wilmes (54).
UNLV has opened its season at 2-3 and is currently sitting on a two-match losing streak. The Rebels are currently hitting .226 with 13.2 kills per set as well as averaging 12.2 digs per set on the defensive side of the ball. UNLV is led by Isabel Martin, who is hitting .300, averaging 4.55 kills per set with 91 kills on the season. The backcourt is led by Caleigh King as she has tallied 76 digs through the first two weeks.
FIU is sitting at 2-5 through the first two weeks of play and are harboring a two-match loss streak. The Panthers are hitting .198 and are averaging 11.0 kills per set as well as 10.1 digs per set. FIU has four players with 40 plus kills: Jade Sadeiko (62), Mackenzie Morgan (45), Syra Tanchin (44) and Yasso Amin (42).
The Tigers are currently harboring a four-match loss streak, after dropping hard fought matches during the Toledo Invitational last weekend. Memphis has tallied 293 kills so far on the season, averaging 12.7 kills per set. Four Tigers have recorded 30 or more kills: Reilly Briggs (63), Tabytha Toelke (59), Clara Bednarek (49), Hannah Jones (35).
Defensively Memphis is led in digs by freshman Abigail Schlueter recording 113 on through the first two weeks, followed by Loren Robertson and Toelke with 57 apiece. Bednarek leads with 25.0 blocks, eight of which were solo.
