Tigers Head on the Road for First Conference Series Against Charlotte

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Tigers will hit the road, traveling to Charlotte for their first conference series against the 49ers Friday, Sept. 29 through Saturday, Sept. 30. Memphis (5-10, 1-2) looks to keep its win streak alive after splitting the series with USF last weekend.
"Heading into our second road trip for AAC play, we look forward to competing against a new conference opponent in Charlotte. Coach Karen Weatherington has done a tremendous job with their program, and they are always ready to compete." Head coach Sean Burdette remarked. "Every match in the American is tough competition and we will need everyone fully ready to compete. We have had a good week of practice and look forward to the trip."
Charlotte (7-7, 0-2) dropped its first two conference matches to UTSA 3-0, and Wichita State 3-0 last week. The 49ers are in the hunt to pick up their first conference win and break the two-match losing streak this week. Charlotte is averaging 11.2 kills per set and are led by Lara Kretschmer (116) and Camryn Upshaw (106). The 49ers are led defensively by Sophia Whalen with 4.02 digs per set and Sydney Baham (56.0) and Kretschmer (57.0) at the net blocking this season.
Memphis split its weekend series with USF, pulling out its first conference win on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers are averaging 11.6 kills per set and a .174 clip. Two Tigers have tallied 100 or more kills on the season so far, Tabytha Toelke leads the team with 117 followed by Clara Bednarek with 100. Rylee Busse currently leads the Tigers with 22 aces through five weeks of play. Abigail Schlueter leads Memphis with 3.63 digs per set with Loren Robertson at 2.73 and Toelke at 2.56. Bednarek tops the Tigers with 40.0 blocks so far this season.
