CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Memphis dropped its first match of a two-match series to Charlotte 3-0 Friday night. The Tigers and 49ers fought through each set, with the 49ers pushes ahead just enough to take the win. Memphis struggled at the net, hitting only .133, totaling 39 kills with 23 attacking errors and putting up only 4.0 blocks.

Memphis and USF began the first set going back and forth with the Tigers holding a one-point lead over the 49ers into the media timeout.
Charlotte forced two timeouts later in set one, after putting together small runs to create a lead over Memphis. The 49ers would go on to take set one 25-21.
Both sides opened going point for point again in set two early. Tabytha Toelke put down a few points for the Tigers through the first half of the set.
Charlotte went on a 4-2 run, extending its lead, forcing Memphis to take a timeout midway through the second set. Autumn Flynn put down back-to-back kills for the Tigers, putting them within one point, forcing the 49ers into a timeout.
The 49ers went on a 7-3 run to close out the second set, taking it 25-20.
Memphis opened set three taking an early lead with kills from Madison Rice-Locket, Hannah Jones, and Flynn, along with errors from Charlotte.
The 49ers took the lead back, going on a 3-0 run that involved back-to-back aces midway through the third set, forcing a Tiger timeout.
Memphis forced a Charlotte timeout late in set three, after bringing the set back within one-point at 19-20. The 49ers would go on to take set three 25-22, and the set.

Notables

Rice-Locket led the Tigers with nine kills, followed by Jones with seven.
Flynn notched her fourth match hitting over .400 with a final clip of .438.
Toelke led the Tigers in digs with 11 in the match, followed by Jordan Heatherly and Abigail Schlueter with five apiece.
