Former Tiger All-American Hunter Goodman Gets MLB Call Up

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Former Tiger All-American Hunter Goodman received an MLB call up from the Colorado Rockies on Sunday morning, the organization announced.
With Sunday's call-up, Goodman becomes the first Tiger position player to reach the big leagues since Jacob Wilson in 2021 (St. Louis Cardinals) and joins Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Sam Moll as the second former Memphis player currently in the majors.
"We are extremely excited for Hunter to live out a childhood dream that I know he's worked extremely hard for," Memphis Baseball head coach Matt Riser said. "He's made the city and the University of Memphis very proud. Hunter is a local product who stayed home to play for his city. I know Coach Rock and his former staff are very proud as well. It's a great day for Hunter and his family and we can't wait to see him in that Rockies uniform. Go Tigers Go!"
Goodman, an Arlington, Tenn., native, was a First-Team Freshman All-American by Baseball America in 2019 and received Third-Team All-America honors following his record-setting 2021 season in which he tied a school record, blasting 21 home runs. During a weekend series against Western Illinois during the shortened 2020 COVID season, the Tiger slugger belted three grand slams and drove in 11 runs in Sunday's finale to cap a 22-RBI weekend.
Goodman became a fourth-round draft pick (109th overall) by the Rockies in 2021 and has produced at every level he's played at within the Rockies' organization. Goodman hit .300 in 22 games in 2021 for Colorado in the Arizona Complex League before spending time in at the A and AA levels during 2022 where he batted .295 with 36 home runs and 106 RBI in 135 games.
The 23-year-old opened 2023 in AA with the Hartford Yard Goats where he slugged 25 home runs and a league-leading 78 RBI before getting his first promotion to AAA Albuquerque on August 9. Since joining the Isotopes, Goodman has been one of the hottest hitters in all of the minor leagues, bashing nine home runs (33 RBI) while batting .371 in his first 15 contests to bring his season total to an MiLB-leading 34 long balls to go with 111 RBI.
