Women’s Soccer Ranked No. 20 in United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll
Aug 02, 2023 | Women's Soccer
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Following an historic run in the NCAA Tournament last season, the Memphis Tiger women's soccer team will start the 2023 season ranked No. 20 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll.
"It is always a privilege to be in the rankings and it's what everyone works for," said head women's soccer coach Brooks Monaghan. "You don't want to get too far ahead of yourself since it is preseason and is based on what you did last season plus looking at the players you lost but this group that we have has tremendous potential."
The Tigers, who found themselves ranked in the top-25 three times last season, went on a tear in October winning three of their last four American Athletic Conference regular season matches to put them in 4th place heading into the AAC Championship. They would go on to defeat ECU, UCF and SMU to claim their second consecutive Championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth consecutive season.
Memphis would stun the soccer community as they shutout No. 2 Saint Louis in the opening round match before eliminating Mississippi State with a 4-0 victory to move on to the Round of 16 for the first time in program history.
The Tigers will open their season on Thursday, August 17 when they host Southern University at the Track & Soccer Complex.
