Riser Rounds Out Staff With Three More Additions
Aug 18, 2023 | Baseball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis Baseball head coach Matt Riser rounded out his staff with the hirings of Kyle Cameron (Director of Player Development), Chase Kessinger (Director of Pitching Development) and Trey Harrington (Director of Video and Data Analytics).
"I could not be more excited about the staff we've put together," Riser said. "All these men are well-versed and exceptional teachers of the game. They pride themselves on identifying and developing premium student-athletes. The number of intangibles our coaching staff has will help us compete for an American Conference Championship now."
Cameron comes to Memphis from Jacksonville State where he spent the last two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach for the Gamecocks. A Tuscaloosa, Ala., native, Cameron arrived at JSU after a five-year playing career at Alabama, and one season as a student assistant in 2021, helping lead the Crimson Tide to the NCAA Ruston Regional. As a player, Cameron made 50 appearances on the mound and compiled a 6-5 record for his career.
Kessinger will stay with Memphis after pitching three seasons for the Tigers (2021-23) in which he made 45 appearances and posted a 3-1 record for his career. Before Memphis, the Oxford, Miss., native pitched at Northeast Mississippi Community College from 2017-2020.
Harrington, a Lakeland, Tenn., native will make the move back to the Memphis area after playing for Riser at Southeastern Louisiana from 2018-2023. Harrington spent his first two seasons in Hammond as an infielder, logging 47 hits in 2019, before transitioning to pitching primarily for his final three seasons.
"Each of these men have the same vision for the program that I do," Riser added. "They are loyal, hard-working and resilient in the pursuit of maximizing our potential. The staff is comprised of former Tigers, men I've coached and men I've coached with. That is a key component to building a consistent winner for years to come. I cannot wait to start this journey with these top-notch coaches and human beings."
These additions round out a staff that Riser has built over the last month that includes Ford Pemberton (Assistant Coach & Recruiting Coordinator), Cory Barton (Pitching Coach), Connor Manola (Assistant Coach) and Director of Baseball Operations Al Woods, who will remain working with Memphis Baseball for his 18th season.
