MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis left-handed All-American closer Dalton Kendrick was selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the 18th round of the 2023 MLB Draft with the 534th overall pick.
Kendrick's 12 saves led the AAC, ranked him eighth in the nation this season and were the third-most ever by a Tiger pitcher. His 20-career saves also rank as the third most in program history.
For the season, the Hernando, Miss., native registered a 3.38 ERA to go with a .90 WHIP and 55 strikeouts in 45.1 innings. Opponents batted just .172 against the 6-foot-5 lefty and he issued just 13 free passes. He received Third Team All-America honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
Kendrick becomes the second Tiger to be selected in this year's draft, joining teammate Dalton Fowler who went in the ninth round to the Tampa Bay Rays. It marks the first time since 2018 that multiple Tigers were drafted.
