May 01, 2023 | Baseball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis center fielder Brayland Skinner was named to the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Weekly Honor Roll for his performance last week in Memphis' win over UT Martin and series with No. 25 Wichita State, the conference announced Monday. This marks the second time this season Skinner has landed on the honor roll (Feb. 20).
Six Tigers have earned conference honors this season. Skinner, Dalton Fowler, Anthony Hansen and Dalton Kendrick have all earned honors twice, and Logan Kohler and JT Durham have each landed on the honor roll once.
For the week, Skinner batted .429 (6-for-14) with a triple, three RBI and three runs scored. In center field, Skinner landed himself at No. 3 on Sportscenter's Top-10 plays on Sunday night for a pair of diving catches in Wichita on a very windy day. The second of the two came with a runner on and one out in the bottom of the ninth inning in Memphis' 6-3 win over the No. 25 Shockers. Skinner also crashed into the center-field wall to make a remarkable catch going straight back on Saturday in Wichita.
Skinner leads the American in triples (5) and ranks fourth in stolen bases (14) for the season. He carries a season batting average of .287 with 39 hits, a team-leading 10 doubles, two home runs and 22 RBI.
The Tigers travel to Jonesboro, Ark., tomorrow for a mid-week game at Tomlinson Stadium-Kell Field at 6:30 p.m. against Arkansas State (15-25).
