Fowler Tabbed AAC Pitcher of the Week, Hansen Gets Second Honor-Roll Nod

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis left-handed pitcher Dalton Fowler was named the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Pitcher of the Week for his performance on April 7 against Cincinnati, the conference announced Monday. In addition, Anthony Hansen earned his second AAC Weekly Honor Roll nod of the season.
Six Tigers have earned conference honors this season. Fowler (twice), Hansen (twice), Dalton Kendrick (twice), Logan Kohler, Brayland Skinner and JT Durham.
Over the weekend, Fowler started in Friday's 6-2 win over Cincinnati and was lights out over seven shutout innings of work, retiring the first 11 Bearcats he faced. The 6-foot-6 lefty struck out 13 to match a career high and allowed just two hits and a single free pass to earn the win.
In eight starts this season, the southpaw has struck out an AAC-leading 73 batters in 43.2 innings and has registered four games with double-digit strikeouts. Over his last 12 innings and first two AAC starts, Fowler has racked up 25 strikeouts.
Hansen went 6-for-16 (.375) on the week, including a two-home run game against defending national champion Ole Miss on April 4. The senior drove in seven runs and scored three to go with his two long balls.
The Columbia, Mo., native has hit safely in 27-of-31 games this season and ranks third in the AAC in home runs (9), total bases (76) and walks (21), and fourth in slugging percentage (.623).
The Tigers travel to Oxford, Miss., tomorrow (April 11) for a mid-week game at Swayze Field at 6:30 p.m. against defending national champion Ole Miss. The Rebels traveled to Memphis and beat the Tigers 7-2 on April 4.
