Mar 09, 2023 | Softball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis softball look to add more wins to the stat line as they host the Tiger Classic this weekend, March 10-12 after splitting midweek double header with Youngstown State Wednesday night.
The Tigers (3-16) are coming off a split series with Youngstown State, taking game one 2-0 before dropping game two 13-9 earlier this week. Memphis looks to play its first games Friday against Indiana State at 4 p.m. and North Alabama at 6:30 p.m. Followed by Indiana State at 2 p.m. and Pitt at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Tigers will finish off the Classic with a game against North Alabama at 1:30 p.m.
"Again, I want to mention Hallie's [Siems] one-hit shutout, it's a quality start that goes a long way when it comes to winning games." Said Head Coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro. "I think we just need to trust the process, that's the name of the game in softball, quality starts and taking advantage of opportunities to hit and score those runs. So we just need to keep plugging away and trusting the process and I think we'll see some success this weekend."
Hallie Siems recorded her first career one-hit shutout, playing a large role in the 2-0 win over Youngstown State. Siems also tallied 10 strikeouts, her career high.
Multiple Tigers recorded runs and RBIs in the double header against the Penguins. Neely Taylor went 3-for-4 with two runs. Sam Ibison and Meagan Chism each tallied three RBIs with Chism adding two runs as well. Madison Berner went 2-for-2 with two runs and Brianna Lucero recorded one run and one RBI over the two games.
