MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis softball will host Youngstown State in a mid-week double header on Wednesday, March 8, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. after coming up short in the Blues City Classic during their home opener weekend.
The Tigers (2-15) are coming off a winless weekend at home and are looking to capitalize on the progress made through the past weekend. The double header will mark the first mid-week game of the season for Memphis. Youngstown (4-8) are traveling to Memphis after a double header with the University of Arkansas- Pine Bluff Tuesday afternoon where they look to continue on a current win streak.
"I thought this past weekend was much different from how we played the three weekends before." said head coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro. "We've gotten better and that's all we can hope for is to keep getting better. We're going to stick with the process and look to see it play out on Wednesday against Youngstown."
Tiger shortstop Aliana Zavala leads the team in hitting average with .385, eight RBIs and three home runs after recording a three-run homerun against NDSU and a two-run double against Drake in the Blues City Classic last weekend. Catcher Meagan Chism tallied her first homerun of the season, hitting the solo shot to left center in the close loss to Drake Saturday night.
Hallie Siems has tallied 54 strikeouts on the season, recording seven against Drake, tying her season high. Siems has recorded four games with seven strikeouts this season.
