Shutes, Griggs and Thomas Named to AAC Postseason Awards

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Following a record-breaking season and a No. 2 seed in the American Athletic Conference Championship, the Memphis Tiger women's basketball team has placed Jamirah Shutes, Madison Griggs and Destiny Thomas on the AAC Postseason Awards list.
Shutes, a 5-9 fifth year from Brownsville, Tenn., was named to the All-AAC Second Team after averaging 14.1 points per game and ranking in the top-10 in scoring average for the league. She poured in just over 200 points during the team's 15-game conference slate and ranks second in the AAC with 114 made free throws.
A five-time Weekly Honor Roll winner this season, Shutes was named to the American Athletic Conference's Preseason All-Conference Team.
Griggs, a 5-9 senior out of Memphis, Tenn., was named to the All-AAC Third Team after dominating from beyond the arc this season. Griggs averaged 13.0 points per game in league play while shooting over 94 percent from the free throw line and nearly 37percent from the field. Griggs ranks second in the AAC after shooting 33 percent from long range and sinking 43 three-pointers in the 15-game span.
Thomas, a 6-4 freshman from Jonesboro, Ark., was named to the All-AAC Freshman Team after a noteworthy rookie campaign where she put herself in the top-10 in the league in multiple categories. During conference play, Thomas brought down 108 rebounds with more than half of them coming on the offensive end.
The Freshman of the Week winner on March 2, Thomas shot 49 percent from the field while playing just over 24 minutes per game.
This is the first time since the 2013-14 season that the Tigers have placed three players on the American Athletic Conference's Postseason Awards List.
