Feb 17, 2026 | Women's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis women's basketball came up short in a tightly contested, 63-58 loss to Tulane on Tuesday evening at Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
The Tigers (8-17, 2-10 American) led by two with 2:14 remaining, but the Green Wave scored eight unanswered points to pull away. Daejah Richmond led the team in every major category, logging a career-high seven steals to go with 23 points and five rebounds.
The junior guard scored Memphis' first 10 points in the first quarter, connecting on five of her first seven attempts. Despite two separate scoring droughts, Tulane (9-16, 4-9 American) went 6-of-8 down the stretch in the second half to build a 33-23 with a minute to play before halftime. Through Richmond and a three-point play from Tamya Smith, the Tigers closed the half out on a 7-0 run to cut it to three at the break.
Their suffocating defense got back to its ways in the third quarter, holding the Green Wave scoreless for nearly five minutes. 10 of their season-high 24 turnovers came in the period, as the hosts were able to take a one-point lead into the final frame despite scoring just 17 points.
Memphis' offense was not immune to dreariness, going six minutes without any points from the end of the third into the fourth quarter. Three more buckets from Richmond sparked a 7-0 run to lead, 56-54, but Tulane would immediately tie the game after five minutes without a basket.
With 1:22 remaining, CC Mays hit a corner three with five seconds remaining on the shot clock, giving Tulane a three-point lead that they would only build on. Chaé Harris had a good look at tying the game on the following possession, but her three-pointer rattled off the rim as the Tigers dropped a fifth consecutive game.
Amira Mabry led the visitors with 13 points and five rebounds. Seven of Tulane's 10 players had either four or five rebounds as the Green Wave won the battle for the boards, 40-24.
These teams will face off again on Thursday, February 19, at 6:30 p.m. in New Orleans.
