Tigers Wrap AAC Indoor Championships With 11 Medalists

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Memphis Tigers track & field teams wrapped up two days of competition at The CrossPlex in Birmingham at the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships. The Memphis men finished sixth (49.5 points ) as a team and the women came in seventh (52 points). The Tigers claimed a total of 11 medals (one gold, three silver, seven bronze).
"Jumps and throws did very well on both sides," head coach Kevin Robinson said. "Vincent [Chenier] scored in the men's mile, and Madison [Fleming] and Simone [Harper] both did very well in the hurdles."
NOTABLES
• On day one, Madison Fleming improved her school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.34 in the 60-meter hurdle prelims, qualifying for the final second-fastest overall. Simone Harper also made the final, clocking 8.52 (seventh fastest). Fleming went on to break her own school record once again in the final with a third-place time of 8.28 to earn a bronze medal.
• In the men's pole vault, the Tigers took three of the top-five spots and two medals. Cole Riddle finished as runner up (5.34m / 17'6.25"), Evan Puckett took bronze with a personal-best mark (5.24m / 17'2.25") and Drew O'Connor finished fifth (5.09m / 16'8.25") to score points for the Tigers.
• Will Dibo took silver in the men's weight throw with a personal-best mark of 18.36m (60'3"). Oliver Tomann (18.11m / 59'5") finished fourth and Ryan Amador finished seventh with a personal-best throw (15.78m / 51'9.25"), both scoring team points for the men.
• Memphis continued its pole-vault dominance on the women's side. Monica Aldrighetti won her first AAC Championship with a vault of 4.09m (13'5") in a jump off to win the Tigers lone gold medal. Alyssa Morello took bronze with a clearance of 3.84m (12'7.25").
• Amber Simpson launched a personal-best throw (21.06m / 69'1.25") to become AAC runner up in the weight throw. Samantha Lenton finished third to earn bronze with a throw of 19.44m (63'9.5").
• The men's distance squad sent four Tigers to the mile final. Vincent Chenier ran a personal-best 4:10.58, and Zach Wyatt, Robert Arnold and Tate Wyatt all advanced with him. Chenier ran another personal-best time of 4:09.59 in the final to finish seventh and score team points.
• Jada Shanklin continued her strong season with another personal-best performance (1.78m / 5'10") in the high jump to finish third and earn a bronze medal.
• In the men's shot put, Sascha Salesius Schmidt took bronze with a personal-best throw of 17.50m (57'5"). In the women's shot, Poorna Raorane followed suit with a bronze-medal finish (15.54m / 51'0). Lenton finished seventh (14.36m / 47'1.5") to score team points.
• In the men's 5,000-meters, Payton Gleason broke the school record (14:25.92), finishing ninth.

• Next up is the NCAA Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico on March 10-11. Athletes ranked within the top-16 of their respective individual events will qualify for the national meet.
