Tigers Venture to SEC Country for Showdown at Missouri

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis basketball preps for its first road trip of the season, as the Tigers travel into SEC country Friday for a matchup against Missouri. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT on SEC Network inside Mizzou Arena.
Fans can tune in and listen to the game on The Varsity Network mobile app and 98.9 FM (WKIM).
The Bluff City Tigers enter Friday's game 1-0 after defeating Jackson State 94-77 in Monday's season opener. It marked the 21st-straight win for the program in home openers.
Missouri will also bring a 1-0 mark into the weekend after routing Arkansas Pine-Bluff, 101-79.
Memphis will make its first trip to Columbia, Missouri since Dec. 14, 2002, when the Tigers fell to No. 11 Missouri 93-78. Billy Richmond scored a game-high 22 points off the bench for Memphis, while Antonio Burks added 15 points and five assists.

- 7-5: Memphis' all-time record against Missouri, with its last meeting coming March 27, 2009 when Missouri put an end to Memphis' 27-game win streak to advance to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.

- The Tigers were sluggish out of the gate, turning the ball over 10 times in the first 11 minutes and falling behind by as many as six. Midway through the first half, Walton nailed triple to spark a 10-0 run and put Memphis in front for good.
SCOUTING MISSOURI
- Missouri opened its season Monday at home with a 101-79 win over Arkansas Pine-Bluff in front of 11,486 fans.
- Five Tigers scored in double figures to lead MU to victory, the first time the Tigers accomplished that feat since November 15, 2022 against SIUE.
- Sean East II led the way with a career-high 21 points.
- Graduates Caleb Grill and Tamar Bates each reached double figures. Grill turned in 15 points and seven boards, while Bates added 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting.
- Mizzou led by 17 at the halftime break and increased its advantage to as many as 32 before finishing off the victory.
- Missouri shot 56.3 percent from the field with a 12-of-30 clip (40.0 percent) from 3-point range.
- The Tigers held the Golden Lions to 40.4 percent from the field with an 8-of-29 mark from behind the arc.
